My passion is using Eastern healing methods to enhance my clients' well-being. I was introduced to shiatsu as a college student in Tokyo while training Shotokan Karate at International Christian University. I experienced first hand how shiatsu improves flexibility, speeds recovery time and enhances performance. I studied shiatsu at the Ohashi Institute in NY, where I received my certification in 1994 and then opened my practice. My interest in Asian philosophy, language and culture underlies my shiatsu practice. It enables me to fully use my skills and knowledge to help clients heal, relax, and achieve healthier, happier lives.

I launched my private practice in 1996. Since 2015 my continuing studies encompass on-going exploration in advanced anatomy & physiology through Kinections, Inc. (Sacramento CA) & Bay Grass Institute (Lutherville MD). This has allows me to combine the various modalities I'm trained & certified in to what I call Integrative Somatic Therapy. These studies are based on the most current research & practices so that I can always provide the best level of soft tissue treatments.

I offer an eclectic modality based approach to my Massage Therapy practice. Each patient is different and unique. I take great care to explore with each patient what technique is going to work best for them. I specialize in myofascial release which then usually leads to trigger point and deep tissue work followed by Active Isolated Stretching(AIS). I also use Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT)on a regular basis.I am also a certified Bowenwork Practitioner. Bowenwork is a point specific light touch therapy that enables the body to rebalance itself. I continue to be amazed by power of this method.

Who can practice massage in Washington?
Most states have licensing requirements that must be met before a practitioner (a 'masseuse' or 'masseur') can use the title 'Massage Therapist', and some states require a license to practice any form of massage. Licensed Massage Therapists in Washington have obtained the highest level of authentication. They must complete academic coursework in anatomy and physiology, as well as on the application of massage and bodywork, business and ethics, and specialized massage techniques. The Washington LMT must then pass a certification exam.

What are the benefits of Washington massage?
Clients use massage in Washington because it relieves pain from muscle aches and sprains, muscle injuries and other causes of pain. It reduces stress and helps clients relax, and can decrease feelings of anxiety and depression by stimulating the release of endorphins and serotonin. Massage therapy in Washington can help prevent fibrosis or scar tissue, increase the flow of lymph, and improve sleep. Washington massage therapy can help rehabilitate sports injuries.

How does massage work?
Massage involves working and acting on the body using pressure from the hands, fingers, elbows, knees, forearm, or feet of the massage therapist. The Washington massage therapist focuses on muscles, tendons, ligaments, myofacia, skin, joints, or other connective tissue, as well as lymphatic vessels, or organs of the gastrointestinal system.
